The British people are being betrayed by both our media and political class. At the time of the 2016 referendum, we were being fed a lot of lies (the one over the £350million for the National Health Service spring to mind). There was a collective failure to both inform the public and to question both the leave and remain campaigns. The bigger scandal is the fact that even now, at a time when the very fabric of the nation is falling apart, there seems a huge effort from both our media and politicians to continue doubling down on brexit, refusing to accept that our long departure from the European Union had been a huge mistake. As a result, any hopes of a new realignment with the EU by rejoining both the common market and the customs union may be effectively dead.
