A King’s Speech full of nothing…
- No plans to tackle the cost-of living crisis.
- No commitment to tackling child poverty.
- No plan to extend devolution powers to the nations and English regions.
- No plans for tax reform, including council tax revaluation.
- Extending voting rights to 16-18 year-olds abandoned.
- Refusal to bail out cash-strapped local councils.
- No plans in place to nationalise our failing utilities to ensure energy security.
- No commitment to international peace.
- No plans to reform the criminal justice system.
- Haphazard policy on net zero.
- No plans to improve public transport including the restarting of the HS2 link from Birmingham to Manchester.
- No policy on tackling the immigration crisis.
- Proposals to change the way we vote for elected officials either put on the back burner or abandoned.
- No plans to reform the Houses of Parliament.
- An earlier commitment to allow the construction new homes rowed back after media and builders’ criticism.
- Repeatedly refuses a commitment to rejoining the European Union one day.
- Limited plans to improve workers’ rights.
- No commitment to improving public sector pay.
- No plans to repair our ailing NHS.
What the new government has committed to so far:
- Self-imposed ‘fiscal responsibility’, and continuing the Conservatives’ policy of austerity.
- Further privatisation our public services.
- The controversial two-child benefit cap will stay in place.
- More public attacks on both BAME and LGBTQ+ people.
- Defending the Israeli government’s actions against the Palestinian people.
- Dragging the country towards a military confrontation with Russia and China.
If you voted for this on July 4th, you have been conned.
This government will be the first in history that have offered nothing, and will deliver nothing.
What is the point of Labour?
